이야기경관(storyscape)은 이야기(story)와 경관(landscape)의 합성어로, 장소를 단순한 물리적 공간이 아닌, 사람들의 기억과 감정, 삶의 이야기가 켜켜이 쌓인 서사의 풍경으로 바라보는 개념입니다.
서준원 박사가 제안한 이 개념은 우리가 살아가는 도시와 일상의 공간을 사회적, 역사적, 문화적 맥락 속에서 깊이 있게 이해하고 해석하기 위한 새로운 시선입니다.

Storyscape is a compound of “story” and “landscape”.
It is a conceptual lens that views place not as a mere physical space,
But as a narrative landscape layered with people’s memories, emotions, and lived experiences.
First proposed by Dr. SUH, Joon Won, this concept offers a new way to understand and interpret urban and everyday spaces within their social, historical, and cultural contexts.

장소를 이야기로 연결하는 감성의 지도
‘이야기지도(storymap)’는 장소에 스며든 사람들의 기억, 감정, 삶의 이야기를 지도 위에 시각적으로 구현하는 도시공학, 지리학, 인류학 기반의 융합적 연구 방법입니다.
공간에 대한 개인 혹은 공동체의 경험과 감정을 수집하고, 그 안의 시간성과 관계성, 서사를 읽어내어 지도 위에 재현함으로써 우리가 살아가는 도시의 맥락을 더 깊이 이해하고 공감할 수 있도록 돕는 도구입니다.
서준원 박사는 이야기지도를 통해 평범한 시민들의 일상사(History of Everyday Life)를 장소와 연결하고,
그들의 기억의 집합(Collected Memories)을 통해 지역의 정체성과 공간의 의미를 재발견하는 실천을 이어오고 있습니다.

A Map that Connects Places with Stories
A Storymap is an interdisciplinary method that visually maps the memories, emotions, and life stories embedded in place.
Combining approaches from urban studies, geography, and anthropology, it captures personal and collective experiences and weaves them into a spatial narrative.
By tracing the connections between space, time, and people, storymaps help us uncover the emotional and cultural layers of urban life and deepen our understanding of the places we inhabit.
Dr. SUH, Joon Won has developed this method to connect the everyday stories of ordinary people to the places they live, exploring how collected memories can reveal and reimagine the identity and meaning of local spaces.
